OUR HISTORY

A Tradition of Engineering

BIAX’s history reflects consistent growth and practical milestones that have shaped our work in flexible shafts and industrial solutions. Key moments include:

1919

Founding of the machinery factory by Dipl. Ing. Richard Schmid and Walter Wezel in Stuttgart.

1921

Introduction of the BIAX brand – synonymous with flexible shafts.

1923

Relocation to Maulbronn into a new manufacturing building.

1934

EFA butchery machines become a new product line.

1945

With the takeover of operations management by Mr. Hans-Georg Wezel, the production of flexible shafts is expanded to include pneumatic and butchery machines.

1989

Mr. Dipl.-Kfm. Ulrich Merkle becomes Managing Partner. With this, the third generation of the family takes over the company’s management.

1997

Certification of the company according to DIN-ISO 9001.

2003

Construction and occupancy of a new production and administration building.

2004

Logo with "SYSTEM CERTIFICATION" in an arc, an orange circle with a checkmark, and "ISO 9001" and "SGS" text.

Certification of the company according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000.

2010

Recertification according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 and certification according to DIN EN ISO 13485:2003.

2016

Restructuring of Schmid & Wezel GmbH.

2018

Recertification of the company according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.

2019

The new Managing Director is Mr. Torsten Wiesenmaier, who has been the authorized signatory of the company since 2013.

2020

Certification in the area of export/customs as AEO-C (Authorized Economic Operator).

2022

A two-story building with a flat roof, gray and white facade, rectangular windows, and a carport sheltering a white van and a gray car.

Relocation of BIAX-Maschinen GmbH from Neuhausen am Rheinfall to Thayngen (Switzerland).
